Serendipity (noun): That quality which, through good fortune and sagacity*, allows a person to discover something good while seeking something else.-Horace Walpole
18th Century Writer and based upon the Persian folktale, "The Three Princes of Serendip"
* Sagacity means personal alertness, awareness, and understanding
(we looked it up, since we didn't know ourselves).
Inn Serendipity serves as an incubator for land stewardship, ecologically-based design and living, ecopreneuring, exploration of "right livelihood," and more sustainable approaches to agriculture and forestry. Inn Serendipity is completely powered by 100-percent renewable energy. Based on how we operate and through participation in various carbon offset programs, all aspects of our business -- including our hospitality business, speaking related to our books, marketing consulting and freelance writing -- result in us operating as a "carbon negative" business, sequestering more carbon dioxide annually than we emit from our business operations and our lifestyle.
Inn Serendipity Bed & Breakfast was recognized by Natural Home magazine (Jan/Feb. 2005) as one of the "Top 10 Eco-destinations in North America," selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of 13 national ENERGY STAR Small Business Network Award recipients for 2004, designated a "5 Green Stars" eco-hotel by Eco Hotels of the World, and certified by Travel Green Wisconsin and Green Routes. Inn Serendipity has been featured in ABC News, MSNBC, USA Today, Associated Press, Vegetarian Times, Conde Nast Traveler and numerous other media.
Our current project at Inn Serendipity involves the conversion of an old granary/corn crib into an active solar heated straw bale greenhouse that we've used in the past to grow papayas and other tropicals; it's currently used for starting transplants in the spring and curing garlic and onions. Our calendar of events offers activity ideas and on-farm happenings. Or try out a few of our summer recipes. You can read Lisa's blogs on the Farmstead Chef cookbook Facebook page. You can read John's blogs on our ECOpreneuring book Facebook page. Or become a fan of Inn Serendipity on Facebook. If you're looking for fresh, local, seasonal, organic produce, consider purchasing direct from our organic farm.

At Inn Serendipity, we are trying to pioneer a different way of doing business, one which strives to value "natural capital" and respect all life on Earth. Based on how we operate and participation in various carbon offset programs, all aspects of our business -- including our hospitality business, speaking related to our books, marketing consulting and freelance writing -- result in us operating as a "carbon negative" business, sequestering more carbon dioxide annually than we emit from our business operations and our personal lifestyle. We've formed partnerships with both non-profits and for profits that share our interest in stewarding the land, fostering diversity and inspiring social change.
