"Rather than some green tips scattered in with rambling koans to Mother Earth, ECOpreneuring is a focused look at starting a business, a guide to the hurdles placed in front of entrepreneurial spirit and a thorough overview of the benefits of sustainability. And while Ivanko and Kivirist encourage readers to consider sustainability for sustainability's sake a good goal, they also are careful to point out the financial benefits of such a route. There is practical advice, from how to handle the taxes of a new venture to choosing insurance, all just as necessary for a green business as any other variety."

This is no ordinary business book -- in fact, I'm not even sure I'd call it a "business book." ECOpreneuring contains plenty of advice on starting a small, eco-conscious business, but the authors focus primarily on how entrepreneurial efforts can incorporate values and priorities beyond the bottom line. Lifestyle choices trump profit motives, but neither have to be sacrificed in order to create meaning and income...Small is beautiful in their approach, as their small-scale initiatives provide ample income for a meaningful life. Value comes to them not only in the form of paychecks, but also in time spent on personal priorities.

Ivanko and Kivirist -- innkeepers, authors, and wearers of many other hats -- truly walk the green talk, detailing [in ECOpreneuring] the nitty-gritty of running a green business.

In ECOpreneuring, Ivanko and Kivirist give us an inside view of what it's like to be a social entrepreneur...If you're wondering who these social entrepreneurs are, how they operate, how they think, and what their values and lifestyles are, this book demystifies it allŠand replaces the conventional American Dream along the way. Ivanko and Kivirist make a point that following your heart is what matters in your career, and that money can come from those activities. They weave this into the 'portfolio perspective', that argues that having one paycheck is a risk, and that you can often have better security if you've got multiple income streams coming in.
